Child Booster Seat
Once you finally have your little bundle of joy, there are many things that you need to change around the household in order to ensure the safety of your little one. One aspect that cannot be forgotten is transportation, especially since children and infants alike will need to get out of the house for some good old family fun or perhaps the regular visit to the pediatrician. For this, you need to be equipped with a child booster seat.
Kids booster seats are a type of carriage that is fitted inside a car and is used by small children for protection during travelling. The usual safety mechanism of a car does not always apply to young children, such as seatbelts which may not hold the body of a child especially those who are very small. Through the booster seats, potential accidents can be avoided. Before choosing a kids car seat for your child, there are several things that you need to take into consideration.
First is the type of booster seat and the age of your child. Children grow very quickly, and will immediately outgrow their first booster seats. However, you should still invest in high-quality booster seats especially if you are planning on having other children who may use these in the future, as well as for the safety of your present child. For infants who do not yet fit in booster seats, an infant carriage that is fitted into the car will work just as well. For parents who are economizing, however, there are booster seats that can be transformed through time in order to accommodate the changing body size of the children.
Once you have decided on which type of child booster seat to choose, run a test drive with the booster seat installed and your child using it. This will ensure that the booster seat fits properly, and more importantly, that your child can travel comfortably in it. Some of the major questions that you should ask yourself as you test the booster seat is whether the child can sit comfortably in the seat, whether the belts cover the arm and chest, whether the hip belt is low enough to protect the lower body, whether the child’s legs can rest comfortably, and whether the position is suited for long travels which you and your family may have to undertake.
Equally important is making sure that the child booster seat is made from strong but nontoxic materials that have been child-proofed – a child can fall asleep and accidentally lay his head on edges of these car seats, which therefore cannot be hard or pointy edged. The booster seats and other similar products should also have the approval rating of the Department of Transportation which sets legal standards, laws and criteria in order to maintain child and infant safety during travel.
Once you have these basics covered, travelling with the family – no matter how cute and tiny some of the kids may be – is not only fun and enjoyable for everyone, but also safe for the kids.
